Each year Worthing town centre operate an open-air sandpit. Children play in it during the day. There is no cover on it to protect the children from the sun and there are no barriers to shop children running into the busy South Street, used by buses and taxis. Parents are meant to supervise their children. Next to the sandpit is Warrick Street, which is full of bars and restaurants, selling amongst other things alcohol.
At night there is no cover over the sandpit. Animals can defecate in it along with happy revellers as the bars and clubs close. Broken bottles can be thrown in it.
Our sandpit will be filled with premium children’s play sand, natural, non-toxic and soft; in an enclosed field of lush green grass. No cars, buses or taxis. No dogs. Our sandpit will have shade over it and around the outside will be tables and chairs where adults can socialise and supervise their children at play. At night it will be securely covered. Clean, safe, family fun.
One sandpit is acceptable to Worthing Borough Council – the other is not.
